Code of Conduct

FINSIA Code of Conduct 2023

The FINSIA Code of Conduct came into force on 26 May 2023.  It applies to all FINSIA members from that date. 

FINSIA’s purpose is support a growing community of financial services professionals to realise their ambition and advance their career by embedding professionalism in financial services through enhanced, measurable standards of conduct and competence.

This updated Code of Conduct defines expectations of conduct consistent with ethical professionalism in financial services.

FINSIA members and committee members are expected to uphold the values and comply with the standards of conduct set forth in the Code.  Student members are also encouraged to read and understand the principles and standards of conduct outlined in this Code to help them to prepare for their future roles.

 

The FINSIA Code of Conduct should be read in conjunction with FINSIA's constitution and by-laws, policies and procedures.

Members should consider the interaction of this code with other professional standards and codes of conduct, for instance employer codes of conduct.

When was the Code of Conduct last reviewed?

The last update to FINSIA’s Code of Conduct was made in 2013 {Download 2013 Code of Conduct PDF}.

The updated FINSIA Code of Conduct 2023 provides additional guidance and information in order to support members to understand and adhere to the expectations of conduct consistent with ethical professionalism in financial services

In 2021, FINSIA commissioned MIntegrity, a specialist regulatory risk consulting firm, to conduct an external, independent review of the FINSIA Code of Conduct, FINSIA By-Laws and terms of reference for the Disciplinary Committee. 

To ensure continuing relevance and compatibility of FINSIA’s purposes and governance, the Code will be independently reviewed every two years.

By-Laws

FINSIA's By-Laws govern membership requirements, resignations, expulsions, rights and responsibilities, fees and elections.

Constitution

FINSIA's Constitution outlines the institute's purpose and the basic framework for FINSIA's processes, including appointment, powers and duties of Board members, liabilities, assets, and income.

Director Nominations Committee — Terms of reference

The Director Nominations Committee is an advisory sub-committee of the Nominations and Remuneration Committee of the Board. The objectives of the committee are to fairly and objectively seek and nominate qualified candidates for election or appointment to the FINSIA Board.

Professional Members can nominate for the Board at any time during the year using the prescribed nomination form and it is the responsibility of the Director Nominations Committee to review each nomination and advise the Nominations and Remuneration Committee of the Board on each nomination, according to the committee’s terms of reference. To allow nominations to be considered by the Director Nominations committee, the constitution and By Laws provide that nominations for election as a Director must be submitted to FINSIA at least eight weeks prior to the AGM.

The complaint handling policy provides guidance to our employees and external parties who may wish to make a complaint to the organisation.
